The Artemis Transat started
Sunday, 11 May 2008
At 1300 GMT on 11th May, thousands of virtual skippers, sailing the LiveSkipper IMOCA 60, joined the worlds top solo sailors on the start line of the 13th running of the Artemis Transat. With light winds from the north, the boats crossed the start line with the Spinnakers flying and made stately progress south to the first mark at Eddystone Lighthouse. From there they will turn west towards the Lizzard Point, then the open ocean. Weather forecasts for the coming two weeks and the addition of the Ice Gate by the Race Directors, which has added a further 230 miles to the shortest course after ice was reported unseasonably far south, suggest that the crossing will take around 11 - 12 days to complete.
