Hey all,
I am new to the game and am looking for some pointers. I get the general idea of selecting your heading and then letting the computer sit for a while to carry out your "game plan". Is that all I should do? Should I play a more active role? I am accepting any and all advice that's offered. Thanks. |

Hey Andrew,
Welcome to LS, other more seasoned players will be able to answer better, I only ben here for a week.
That is the general idea, only you need to be able to predict the weather patterns and be able to position yourself in the best place.
Check out the wiki files, they will give you a good idea.

To answer your question as good as possible: it depends on the winds and your sailing skills. So this is the exact answer.
Now a more realistic answer: It is all a little new for us as this Trimaran is an upgraded version with more powerful and efficient sails. But to give a rough guesstimate, you may count the race to last in between 40 - 60 days.
Some 20 days to Cape of Good Hope and with this blessing some 15-20 days to Perth, for the leaders in the Fleet.

Good to see a sailor from ?????(where you come from andrew  ).
No doubt there will be other sailors from you country here in LiveSkipper (LS)
If you are a beginner in Virtual sailing, I would propose to start the GAME in Beginner Mode as there is a nice Tutorial that explains in a couple of short steps the principles of LiveSkipper sailing and helps with sail selection and scheduling your waypoints for a course on the programming mode.
You may go to the GAME menu and select the RACE&CHALLENGES . Select a Race or Challenge you like and click on JOIN on the far right side.
In the Welcome screen the Tutorial will start. Once the game start, you have to control the boat with the heading, turn the compass right bottom corner, the best sail will (in beginner mode) automatic be selected. set the heading in the direction you want and move it a little left and right to choose a direction with best boat speed, AND SAIL.
I foresee a warm welcome from other players and hope you will find your way in sailing with us and competing with us. Do visit our Racebar [ http://www.liveskipper.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=5423 ] for a drink, a joke, and some news not directly related to the races.

LiveSkipper features & rules give some detailed insight in the game and discussion to optimize your sailing,
Help? where questions are asked and mostly proper answers given mostly in a couple of hours but never longer than a day,
Weather/routing discussions talks on ........well the weather and in
LiveSkipper miscellaneous you will find the topics on races and other stuff.
Each Friday LS organizes a short FR race. So prepare for a race in East Canada TODAY, starting 16:00 gmt.
And there will be ongoing almost always 1 or 2 longer duration races. The race to Perth has started yesterday and though a little late you can still start and catch up with the other sailors.
To learn the sailing in LS, the best way is: TO SAIL and ASK all questions and no doubt in short time you can sail with the best 
and remember: there is no stupid question, or maybe just that one not asked 
any questions : ASK ,, you will have an answer in a couple of hours mostly but never longer than a day.

| To answer your question I am from Michigan and grew up sailing on Lake Huron. I now live in Maryland and sail for my school. Thought this would be a fun way to practice some offshore sailing skills. |

| Good to see another Ex-Gander Andrew. I kept a boat on the other side in South Haven for several years. Ran the Chicago -Mac twice. but mostly spent time just cruising to beaver island and mackinaw or over on the Wisconsin side. What school and boat are you sailing now? |
