Gutentag Harald o/b TOPCAT GER

WELCOME to LIVESKIPPER , the Best Virtual Sailing platform on the Whole World Web Smile

You have joined the best forum on LiveSkipper (LS), the English one, and you will find some compatriots here as well.

Your Boat name suggest your love for Cats, well we have some Cats and Trimarans in LS , upto and including the very fast Maxi.

Please join us in race and if you have any questions on saililng or telling LS how you want to sail your boat, please ask. Mostly you will have a quick answer but for sure within a day.

If you'r complete new in sailing , I suggest you to visit our LIVESKIPPER WIKI .
There are some chapters on the basics of sailing, a chapter for beginners and some tutorials.
Also as experienced Sailor you will find a lot of information on how to apply this in LS. The Index on the top left side will guide you to it.
There is also a FAQ section, that tries to explain the common questions as well as some very detailed ones.

In the game , you also can find 2 modes : Comfort mode for the Beginner (I think the game starts with that one for a new registered skipper), and the Adept mode. changes can be made on the opening screen in each game or in the Settings menu in the Game. The Comfort mode, has less options and for newbies easier to start sailing.

However our Forum is lively and any questions asked , will be answered in a few hours time, round the clock; and many find this the quickest ( and most pleasant) manner to find answers.

The rest is training in just sailing in races with others and try to understand the movements of other boats. Select some of the best sailors in your friends-list and their boat will show up on the game, provided selected the right boats in Settings.

I hope to see you frequently in races and I have included you already in my friends list. Laughing

Remember that the fastest way of learning LS is: try it, do it and ask, ask any question you stumble upon. Their is no dumb question, or maybe that one you did not ask. Rolling Eyes
The answers come in our active forum mostly very quick.

Hi,

in the post from April, 10th you thought about my love for Cats. Yes, I was a regatta sailor for many years on TOPCAT Catamarans til 2009.
If you want to, you can have a look on www.itca.de and search for Harald Ortmann.

Fair winds, Harald

Are we lucky this FR is sailed in a MonoHull Rolling Eyes

else you will blown us all out of the water , I fear Smile

that goes indeed a little faster than the 12kts that I am sailing now in the FR ; but than this boat type is one of the slowest in our LS fleet.
Wait till we sail the Max Foil Trimaran in the Tradewinds.

I see on those photo's that you mostly sailing on lakes or close to shorelines. LS will offer you alos to work out some strategies with long time wind forecast on the Open Ocean routes.

fair winds

Hi,

I have a question.

My boat stops at every waypoint I use. Is that right and why is it?

Best regards, Harald

Hi Harald, check that you have the correct sail up for each W/P. (and anchor not down)

Hi Harald
Congrats with your Good results on this FR, very nice sailing on your first LiveSkipper (LS) race.

No, it is not good when your boat stops at each Waypoint, Mark.

LS has 2 different systems of scheduling your route:
- Waypoints, the marks will color Green when engaged.
The way LS uses both systems is different. WP is location based, the time is variable with the winds.
i.e. you have to sail close along a clif or buoy and then make a turn or sail change. You set the Mark as accurate as possible on that location (for accuracy you can on the Mark type the longitude and latitude numbers), at the Mark you schedule the heading and sail to be used after the Mark and engaged the green WP.
Your boat will sail till it reaches the WP, at the next LS 10 min. calculation period the new heading and sail will be activated and your Boat sails accordingly.
Note: now if your Boat reaches the WP lets say at 03:07 hours, then LS will have your Boat waiting till the 03:10 re-calculation time before iit is activated and sails on. This you may have seen as waiting period.

- Scheduler, the marks will color Purple when engaged.
The Purple Scheduler is time based, and the location reached at a time is wind based. There for a scheduler mark can moving along and will not guarantee you passage of a cliff, rather than a grounding.
You can set the time accurately by typing the time in minutes in the Mark field.
At the Mark you should specify the new heading and new sail, don't forget that anchor is a "sail type" which will hold your boat at the mark; it is a kind of parking break.
Your boat will sail to the Purple Mark and notice the new settings for Heading and sail, and autosail (only possible in purple Scheduler). At the next LS recalculation time, the settings will be activated, BUT ............and this is the tricky thing the new settings will be activated at the location of the boat 10 min before this recalculation time.
e.g. you boat reaches the mark at 03:07 and notices the new settings for Heading and Sail. At 03:10 at the new re-calculation it will activate the new settings BUT at the location of your Boat at 03:00. This has caused many sailors to make the turn too early and miss a gate Rolling Eyes

- No Scheduling mode, Yoiu can set Mark on the route that will be Orange in color. However as long you not engage a scheduling mode, the color will stay organge and no scheduling action will be taken. The mark just sit there without being active.

In the LS wiki there is also some explanation on the Scheduling modes, see http://www.liveskipper.com/wiki/doku.php?id=en:advanced:gate#understand_the_liveskipper_programming_modes

If you have any questions please ask, we are too happy to answer them asap.
