Overview

While playing on LiveSkipper, you will be awarded experience points based on your actions. Whenever you complete a key action in LiveSkipper, like crossing a gate or finishing a race, you will be awarded experience points that reflect this successful action.

These experience points cumulate, and depending on the amount you have, a rank will be given to you. These ranks are a indicator of your profile on LiveSkipper, that you may be interested in or not. It may be the starting point for new goals, or a reassuring clue about your knowledge and performance on LiveSkipper. Or you may just ignore it if you don't care. It may also be an indication about what to expect from a given player. Watch out for really high ranked players, they certainly have the knowledge AND the performance to give a fierce battle on the water.

What are the ranks?

The ranks are, in order of difficulty to obtain:

Code:
01. Junior Seaman
02. Able Seaman
03. Leading Rate
04. Petty Officer
05. Chief Petty Officer
06. Master Chief P.O.
07. Fleet Chief P.O.
08. Midshipman
09. Acting Sub-Lieutenant
10. Sub-Lieutenant
11. Lieutenant
12. Commander
13. Captain
14. Commodore
15. Rear Admiral
16. Vice Admiral
17. Admiral
18. Admiral 1 Star
19. Admiral 2 Stars
20. Admiral 3 Stars
21. Admiral 4 Stars
22. Admiral 5 Stars
xx. Admiral of the Fleet

How to obtain experience points?

You can get experience points through the following actions:
- validating a gate on a race
- finishing a race

You can't get experience points from challenges yet. It will be possible in the future.

What parameters are taken into account when obtaining experience?

When crossing a gate or finishing a race, the following parameters are taken into account:
- the action you've completed, finishing a race gives more experience than crossing the other gates
- the better the current ranking, the more experience you obtain
- the more players on the race, the slower the experience decreases with the position (similar to what's happening with scores)
- the more difficult the race, the more experience you obtain

The experience is distributed over all the gates of a race, so that a race with 0 or 10 gates globally gives the same amount of experience. The finish gate gives much more experience than the other gates.

How much experience gives a gate crossing ?

The base experience amount varies between 300 if the ranking is really bad to 4000 when 1st. This base amount is then divided depending on the number of gates on the race and the gate itself, to give a gate amount:

For the last gate:
- if it's the only gate on the race, the gate amount is the base amount itself
- if there is n gates, n>1, the gate amount is the base amount divided by 2

For the intermediary gates:
- the gate amount is the base amount divided by (n-1), i.e. the number of intermediary gates

The gate amount is then multiplied by the difficulty rate of the race to give the final amount.

What is the bar and figures next to the rank icon?

This bar indicates the progression towards the next rank and the figures indicate the number of points already obtained in this rank level and the number of points needed to reach the next rank level.

So if you are Junior Seaman, you may for example see 100/400 and a bar filled at 25%. It means that you already obtained 100 points on your way to the 400 points needed to reach the Able Seaman rank.

What happens when reaching a new rank?

Your amount of experience in the new level restarts at zero plus the exceeding amount you obtained when reaching your new rank level.

The progress bar is updated with your new next rank level.

When reaching the Admiral rank, the bar changes a bit, and will always remain full. The experience you obtain accumulates and is displayed with the progress bar but you won't have a next amount to reach.

How to become Admiral of the Fleet?

This rank is special: only one player can have it at a given time. This player is the one with the most experience points once reached the Admiral rank.

What is the amount of experience to get to reach each level?

Code:
