I have done some testing with the latest OS update that came out today, the latest Flash Player for Mac, and Safari and there seem to be some problems with zooming in all the way when you are near a coastline.

The problem is that everything becomes so pixellated that you can not see anything, I will try to describe this as best I can below. It could be that there is some "maximum zoom level" that is not being set in Safari. I resized a lot of these screenshots, so the relative sizes might be slightly off...

Farthest I can zoom in without pixellation:

One zoom level further:

Two zooms:

Zoomed in all the way:

I checked in Chrome & Firefox and do not have any issues in either of those browsers.

chrome:

firefox:

Mac OS X - 10.8.1
Flash - 11.4.402.265
MacBook Pro Retina

On a positive note the latest Flash Player with the Retina display now shows text nice and crisp, not fuzzy like it has been since it was released.

happy to take this to PM if this is not effecting anyone else

bill

hi bill

I do not use Safari, and with other Browsers I do not have any problem.

It looks like a Safari related problem.
Better use a complaint form to inform TeamLS and see whether they can help you out. Luckily for you, the other browsers are working OK.

I don't know what Safari changed :/
Anyway you can see as much as on the other browsers, you just should not be able to zoom 2 steps further. Maybe an update linked to the Retina display (Apple loves to cheat around resolutions and Retina stuff from a developper perspective so that it magically seems to work, mix that with Adobe's Flash and tada!). Please tell us if you encounter this problem on future updates of the other browsers (Firefox/Chrome) too.

If someone else encounter this problem, please send us a Support Form so that we can have your browser and Flash version, and tell us if you have a Retina display or a normal one. Thanks for your help.

So the problem happens on MacOS X 10.8.1 + Safari 6, /536.25 and Flash 14.4.402.

Thanks Ino

here is a little more info for you to have.

one of the interesting things is that this really only shows itself when you near any coastline, so when it loads in the coast maps. The pict below is zoomed all the way in, you can see other boats, wind projection lines, boat paths, wind arrows, etc. perfect - it is just the base maps that seem to have an issue of "over-zooming" and pixelating out.

This is the same area as the other screenshots above with us all in the harbor now.

Bringing this up again since nothing seems to have been done to fix it, yet...

Same issues as are documented above for the past few months, below is the exact same map loaded. All I have done is move the background map 1 pixel to the left and the map completely pixelates to a point that you can't see anything

Correct:

Pixelated:

I will send a support form again so you have the details located there, but here is my system:

Mac OS X - 10.8.2
Flash - 11.4.402.287
Safari - 6.0.2
MacBook Pro Retina

Sorry that I can't offer you any suggestions Bill. As I am still on the old OS, Apple does not offer an upgrade beyond Safari v5 with all its vulnerabilities. In other words, Safari is no longer an option on my system although it is still the best behaved for LS.

Camino has many gremlins with LS. It is 'usable' but not one which I have the patience to use.

SeaMonkey is much better - I am currently using it for a second boat. I have it set it up to only play plugins after giving permission which means that I can have the LS window active but not the chat window. I don't know it that is what helps to make it more usable.

Thanks Barb (long time no chat) Wink

I use Chrome & Firefox for other boats. Chrome still has issues with Flash being all soft and fuzzy (nothing is crisp on-screen), Firefox is fine, but seems to use a lot more system resources - and neither of them are my "preferred" browser that I use day to day.

This problem with Safari has been going on for a while, and it seems to be something with how the maps are loaded/unloaded and/or how they are rendered in LS. I can end up with a screen that is halfway between what I have above - half will be perfectly clear and the other completely pixelated.

another variation on the theme, again I just moved the background map 1 pixel to the right and the screen changes to this

Before Move

After Move

Hi Bill

I do not use Apple and therefor no Safari and with all your problems it is not likely I want to swoop as well.

anyway the image of your last but one post 2nd image I do recognise . But that is only for a short while visible as the game screen is being loaded.

So it could be that safari has problems with fully loading the map ???

Bill, because Safari becomes bloatware when zooming in, try this test:

Open the Activity Monitor and find 'Safari Web Content', select and quit the process. It will resporn but use a lot less memory. That should help to clear out all the 'bad' images.

The first point which would be checked is if these problems appear on another machine without Retina (same OS , same Flash).
Steve and Apple did not like the "FLASHy" things for a while ...
Maybe the Safari developers forgot some details about Flash and Retina Smile

I'm using Mac OS X 10.6.8 still, but had problem with crashing flash plugin on Firefox and the game was slow as hell. I started using Chrome and all my problems are gone, so maybe you should try another web browser?
