Can someone please explain the advantages of using one mode over the other or what factors are used in making that decision if it varies? Thank you..

Hello
waypoint (in green) is sending your boat to a precise point, straight forward
so its a good way to avoid wrecking, but it won't follow the wind changes
you can start your straight line at an agle of 60 and finish at 100 or 30, with a wrong sail
moreover, waypoints will cost you a time penalty of at least 1minute

schedule makes you sail for a defined time, along a straight line if you are not with "cape auto" or along a constant wind angle if you choose this option

waypoints are not matching with "auto cape", this could be done only with schedule

when you are in constant wind and safe sea, schedule + cape auto is the best
I only use waypoint in special circumstances like gate crossing, arrival or rocky paths

note also that ALL the points are mooving with wind that will push them as they were free buoys on water
that mean that in schedule mode, your path will slightly change a litlle easter ou souther or... (depend on wind direction) but you will still change cape at the written hour on your mark
and in WP mode, instead of reaching your point at HH:MM time you will arrive later and loose time on perfect changing cape point

hi JB01
there are success stories on both sailing with the "Green" Waypoint program as with the "Purple" Scheduler. But if you know which type of programming is best at a time, you will make major gains on our opponenets, as ToulonSurMer CM has explained perfectly the difference.

Have also a read in the wiki, on the principles http://www.liveskipper.com/wiki/doku.php?id=en:sailing:compass
or some tips in the Advance chapter e.g. http://www.liveskipper.com/wiki/doku.php?id=en:advanced:gate#understand_the_liveskipper_programming_modes

try both types and feel the differences and learn when to apply one over the other.

fair winds and safe sailing
