Grades

When you play in LiveSkipper, you earn experience points based on the achievements you make. Every time you make an achievement in the game, like passing a gate in a Race or finish a Race, you earn points that reflect this experience. Experience points accumulate and you are assigned a Grade according to the points obtained. Your Grade is an indicator of your profile on LiveSkipper, which may or may not interest you. This Grade can give you new objectives or allow you to gauge your knowledge and your performance on LiveSkipper. The Grade can also give you an indication of what experience you would expect from other players. Keep your eyes open for players with very high grades, they have certainly the knowledge and capabilities to deliver a fierce battle on the water.

Gain experience

Sources of experience

You can increase your experience by doing the following:

  • validate a gate in a Race
  • finish a Race
  • You can not get experience on the Challenges, currently. Maybe in future.

Parameters taken into account

While passing a Gate or finishing a Race, the following parameters are considered:

  • achievements that have been done, finish a race gives more experience than going through a gate
  • the number of experience points increases even with a better classification in a Race
  • the experience points gained decreases more slowly with a worse rating if there's more players on the run (similar to what is done for the calculation of scores)
  • the experience points gained are more with a higher level of difficulty of the race
  • The experience points gain is spread over all the gates of the race, so each gate in that race is giving the same gain of experience points. The passage of the Finish gives a lot more experience points than the intermediate gates.

How much experience provides passage of a gate?

The amount of basic experience points in a Race ranges from 300 if the classification is very bad to 4000 for the first arrival in a Race and incorporates the difficulty setting of a Race. This amount is then divided by the number of gates on the Race, to give an amount linked to the gate

Passing the Finish line:

If there are no other gates in the race: the amount gained at the Finish is directly the amount of basic experience points for the race, if there are N doors,(N > 1): the amount gained at the Finish line is the basic divided by 2

For each intermediate doors

the amount is related to the amount of basic experience and divided by 2 * (n-1), I.e. half of the basic amount divided by the number of intermediate gates.

Progression

Your progression is shown on the home page as an icon representing the current Grade, and a progress bar.

Progression bar

This bar indicates the progression to the next grade, and the numbers indicate the number of points already made in the current grade, and the total number of points needed to get to the next Grade. For example, if you are Junior Seaman, if you see 100/400 next to a bar filled to 25%, this means that you have already accumulated 100 experience points and it takes 400 to reach the next Grade, Able Seaman.

Getting a new Grade

When you reach a new Grade, the experience counter is reset to 0 over the amount of experience obtained when you reach the new grade. The progress bar is updated accordingly to reach till the next grade. When the Grade of Admiral is reached, the bar changes slightly. It is filled all the time and experience points are now added to your experience without a maximum.

Admiral of the Fleet

The Grade of Admiral of the Fleet is special: Only one player can carry this Grade at any given time. This player is the one who has the most experience after attaining the Grade of Admiral.
